About
Discover the “warm heart” of Tuscany: the Larderello Geothermal Museum offers an engaging journey through nature, history and sustainable energy. Housed in the historic Palazzo De Larderel, the museum traces the evolution of geothermal energy from its use by the Etruscans to modern power stations. It was here, in 1913, that the world’s first geothermal power station was built – now part of a system that covers around 30% of Tuscany’s energy needs. The exhibition unfolds across 10 rooms featuring modern installations, artefacts, models and videos, illustrating natural phenomena, industrial development and energy innovation. Outside, visitors can see historic structures such as the striking covered lagoon. Guided tours, workshops and trips to local geothermal sites, such as fumaroles, power stations and the thermal baths of Sasso Pisano, are available by booking. In summer, the demonstration well is also open to visitors, with daily tours. Free admission – ideal for families, curious visitors and school groups.
